Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sets New Series Record, with 1.23 Million Sold in Three Days in Japan

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has sold over 1.23 million units, during the first three days in Japan, making it the highest debut out of any Smash Bros. title within the series.

According to Famitsu, their sales tracker indicated that the highly-anticipated brawler sold a total of 1,238,358 copies on its launch weekend from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9. The data provided only accounts for physical copies sold, since the digital sales figures hasn’t been released yet.

Reported by Siliconera, Nintendo Switch console has sold 107,450 units from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2. With the influence of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate coming out the following week, the hardware sales rose approximately by 2.6 times, resulting a total of 278,313 units sold from Dec. 3 to Dec. 9.

Famitsu foresees that the software sales will continue to increase as the holiday season progresses into the New Year.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available worldwide on the Nintendo Switch. It’s the latest, definitive entry to the Smash Bros. series, that features massive roster of 74 characters, along with 103 stages, 800 songs and new modes to play. Based on Metacritic, it received a 93 Metascore, from 57 critics, and User Score of 8.7 out of 10, from 853 ratings.
